New World Weaponsmithing Guide

Introduction to

The Weaponsmithing Trade Skill in New World allows players to create a variety of weapons including great axes, longswords, round shields, rapiers, shields, and war hammers. We will cover all this in more in our New World Weaponsmithing Guide.

Weaponsmithing in New World

To get started with Weaponsmithing you will need to gather basic resources and refine them to craft (Ingots, leathers, clothes, and lumbers). Once the resources have been obtained you will be using the Forge (Anvil icon on the map) to craft anything Weaponsmithing. A Tier 1 Camp can be used to craft a wooden longsword, however, this really doesn’t have much use as you start with something better and it yields no experience. To craft, walk up to a Forge and press your default to interact button, “E”, to open the crafting window.

It is important to note the tier of the Forge you are using as it determines what tier items you can craft:

• Forge T2: 1-49 Recipes
• Forge T3: 50-99 Recipes
• Forge T4: 100-149 Recipes
• Forge T5: 150+ Recipes

When you are at the crafting station and have the resources, you will want to open the crafting menu and select what you want to craft. Once you’ve selected the item to craft, you can click the blue CRAFT button to craft the item. If you wish to craft more than one you can move the slider above it and select how many you wish to bulk craft.

Most of the time when you craft an item at the Forge you are awarded Weaponsmithing experience. The amount of experience for crafting an item can be found under the blue CRAFT button in the crafting screen. An exception is the Wood weapons as seen above. The Weaponsmithing level cap is 200, of which afterward you will start to gain aptitude.

When crafting an item Tier 2 or higher, the first item in the craft must match the same tier as the item you are crafting. For example, the Starmetal Round Shield (seen below) is a Tier 4 Round Shield so it requires the Tier 4 Metal Ingot to craft it as the primary material (Starmetal Ingot, Blessed Crucible, or Azurite Chunk). The secondary materials are not restricted to the tier requirement making it so you may use lesser or greater tiered materials in the craft. Leveling Weaponsmithing

Information in this section contains what I feel is a way to level your Weaponsmithing Trade Skill. You are in no way restricted to this method. I expect you to diverge from it depending on material availability, refining proc chances, and market price values.

I do not take into consideration the proc chances for the refining process as it is not the only method of obtaining the materials to craft and the proc chance depends on level & resources used. Some players may want to spend gold to buy all/some of the materials from the trade stations.

Town Board Quests: It is suggested to complete these quests that can be picked up at the town board as they will net you more experience than just crafting items. There are a few problems with leveling using this method. These quests are only updated every 30 minutes, it is possible that a Weaponsmithing quest may not be provided, and finally the higher level you get there is an increased chance that the quest might not be on par with your tier (May get a crude work order when you are on Starmetal). 

Round Shields: Longswords, Rapiers, and the Round Shields all take the same resources to craft them. The Round Shields have the advantage over the other crafts here because they can salvage 1-4 ingots while the Longswords and Rapiers are 1-2.

Levels 1 – 50 (Tier 2 Crafting)

You will need a total of 11,995 experience to reach level 50. Tier 2 crafting for Weaponsmithing follows this formula for experience: 

Number of Materials * 12 Experience = Experience Output

The Iron Round Shield requires 10 items to craft it; 7 Iron Ingots, 2 Timber, and 1 Coarse Leather. When multiplied by the tier experience value of 12 it will provide us with a total of 120 experience to craft it. My suggestion for leveling this tier is to craft 100 Iron Round Shields for a total of 12,000 experience. 

Total required materials:

• 700x Iron Ingots
• 200x Timber
• 100x Coarse Leather

Raw Materials:

• 2,800x Iron Ore
• 800x Green Wood
• 400x Raw Hide

Iron Round Shield’s base tax value is 0.17. Without any tax modifiers, you will need to spend 17.00 gold to craft them.

Levels 51 – 100 (Tier 3 Crafting)

You will need a total of 139,720 experience to reach level 100. Tier 3 crafting for Weaponsmithing follows this formula for experience: 

Number of Materials * 45 Experience = Experience Output

My suggestion for leveling this tier is to craft 283 Steel Round Shields at 495 experience each for a total of 140,085 experience. It takes 8x Steel Ingots, 2x Timber, and 1x Coarse Leather. 

Total required materials:

• 2,264x Steel Ingots
• 566x Timber
• 283x Coarse Leathers

Base materials for up-crafting:

• 27,168x Iron Ore
• 2,264x Flux 
• 11,320x Green Wood
• 1,132x Raw Hide

Steel Round Shield’s base tax value is 0.52. Without any tax modifiers, you will need to spend 147.16 gold to just craft them.

Level 100 – 150 (Tier 4 Crafting)

You will need a total of 986,195 experience to reach level 150. Tier 4 crafting for Weaponsmithing follows this formula for experience:

Number of Materials * 168 Experience = Experience Output

This is going to be very similar to the Tier 3 crafting as we will want to craft 490 Starmetal Round Shields for 987,840 experience. It takes 9x Starmetal Ingots, 2x Timber, and 1x Coarse Leather per craft.

Total required materials:

• 4,410x Starmetal Ingots
• 980x Timber
• 490x Coarse Leather

Raw Materials:

• 105,840x Iron Ore
• 26,460x Starmetal Ore
• 13,230x Flux
• 30,380x Green Wood
• 1,960x Raw Hide

Starmetal Round Shield’s base tax value is 1.28. Without any tax modifiers you will need to spend 627.20 gold to just craft them. 

Level 150 – 200 (Tier 5 Crafting)

You will need a total of 5,044,655 experience to reach level 200. Tier 5 crafting for Weaponsmithing follows this formula for experience: 

Number of Materials * 437 Experience = Experience Output

This is going to be very similar to the Tier 3/4 crafting as we will want to craft 770 Orichalcum Round Shield at 6,552 experience each for a total of 5,045,040 experience. It takes 10x Orichalcum Ingots, 3x Timber, and 2x Coarse Leather per craft.

Total required materials:

• 7,700x Orichalcum Ingot
• 1,540x Timber
• 1,540x Coarse Leather

Base materials for up-crafting:

• 369,600x Iron Ore 
• 92,400x Starmetal Ore 
• 61,600x Orichalcum Ore

Orichalcum Round Shield’s base tax value is 3.11. Without any tax modifiers, you will need to spend 2,394.70 gold to just craft them.

Enhancing Your Weaponsmithing

Buffs and perks are the 2 main ways to enhance your Weaponsmithing. Both have ways to stack them, but with all good things, there are limitations.

Perks are limited to item type and only being able to have 1 type of perk on the item. For example, an amulet can’t have Weaponsmithing Expertise because it is an Armor Perk. There are always exceptions to the rule; sometimes a quest item will give a named item that comes with a double perk, however, none currently exist for Weaponsmithing that we know of at this time. 

There exists a Weaponsmithing armor set that is ideal for players who want to increase the gear score value on their crafts. The differences between the sets are purely cosmetic. Additionally, you are able to mix and match them as you need to gain the buffs you want. The armor is also tradable so you purchase them from other players.
