Introduction to Cooking in New World

The cooking profession in New World allows players to craft foods that regenerate health and mana, increase your attribute points, increase your luck while gathering, and increase your max gear score for an applicable trade while crafting. You can also craft fishing bait and dyes with the cooking profession. 

In order to get started cooking you simply need to gather some cooking ingredients, make your way over to a kitchen or campfire, and press the default key of “E” to begin crafting. Cooking at a campfire is limited to recovery foods and bait. You can not craft any attribute food, trade food, or dyes at a camp. 



Also important to note is the tier of the kitchen you are using. You will be limited to cooking items of the same tier as the crafting station you are using. So, in order to craft end game Tier V food you will need to find a Tier V Kitchen. 

Once you’re at the crafting station select the item you wish to craft and if you have the necessary ingredients then you will simply select the blue CRAFT button, or use the slider to craft multiple of the same item if you wish. 

Every time you cook an item you will be rewarded with cooking experience. As your cooking experience increases so will your cooking level. Cooking is capped at level 200. As you progress in cooking level you will be able to cook higher tier food. 

TIP: When first starting out make sure you pay attention to the drop down menus for food. The game will default certain ingredients for your recovery foods and food components. You can select from a vast array of ingredients to craft those foods, and some of the ingredients are MUCH easier to come by than others. Be careful not to use rare ingredients that were selected by default when crafting your low tier food. 

Selecting rarer ingredients does not enhance your lower tier food. If you utilize higher tier ingredients for the “Raw Foods” Option you will have a chance to craft additional items, but the quality of the food does not change. 



Worth noting here is that you can place your ingredients (works for all crafting not just cooking) in the storage in a settlement and still access those ingredients at the cooking station. You have to be in the same settlement that you have the items stored in, but you do not have to have them in your inventory. 

A quick note about the UI. You may notice that while cooking there is a message that says “No bonus can be added to this item.” That area is reserved for other crafting professions. For example, if you use an Arcana station you will be able to apply special resources that will cause your crafted item to have a specific perk, and you can craft using Azoth which will increase the chances of your item having attributes and gem slots. Because the consumables you craft with cooking do not have attributes or perks, you do not have those options available.
 

Different Types of Foods and Buffs

Food in New World is broken down into 4 different categories. Each category of food ranges from Tier 1 to Tier 5 (You can view all foods and their buffs in our database):

  • Recovery Foods
  • Attribute Foods
  • Trade Skill Foods
  • Food Components

Recovery Foods are used to recover both health and mana. Health Recovery foods will allow you to recover X amount of health (the higher tier food the more health you will recover) per second for 20 seconds, but the recovery will stop if damage is taken. Afterwards, you will recover 1% of your health every 2.5 seconds for X minutes (the higher tier food the longer the duration). 

Mana recovery foods are called “Energizing” rations or meals. This type of food will grant you increased mana regeneration rate by X% (the higher tier food the higher the regeneration rate) for X minutes (the higher tier food the longer the duration).  

You will have, by default, the recipes to craft all 5 tiers of both types of recovery food beginning at level 1. However, in order to craft the tier 5 recovery food you must work your way up to 150 cooking and be at a tier V crafting station or tier V camp. 

Attribute Foods are broken down into the following:

  • Strength Foods
  • Dexterity Foods
  • Intelligence Foods
  • Focus Foods
  • Constitution Foods

Attribute foods will increase the specified attribute for a specified duration of time depending on the tier of food you craft. These foods also grant you health recovery while the food buff is active. 

You will only have access to tier II versions of these foods by default. You will have to find recipes for the remaining tiers (more on that below). 

Within each of the categories you can craft a pure attribute food, or a combination attribute food. For example, if you want additional strength attribute points you can craft the tier 2 pork chops and applesauce to get 10 additional strength attribute points for 25 minutes. 



You could also craft a combination of strength and constitution by crafting Cheesy Broccoli Soup. This would increase your strength by 6 and your constitution by 4 for 25 minutes. 



The other attribute foods follow this same pattern. Whatever attribute food you are crafting will always have that attribute as the primary attribute, and then depending on the food you craft could have another secondary attribute as well. 

Trade skill foods are broken down into both crafting and gathering foods. For each gathering profession you can craft a food that will increase your luck by a specified amount, and for each crafting profession that has associated gear scores you can craft a food that will increase your minimum and maximum gear score for crafted items for a specified amount of time. This applies to the following:

Weaponsmithing
Jewel Crafting
Engineering
Arcana
Armoring

The last category of food, called food components, are simply ingredients that are used in other recipes but have to be crafted first. For example, cooking oil is used to craft Game Meat Skewers. In order to get cooking oil you must first craft some by using fish oil and nuts. 

Where to Find Recipes

By default you will have access to all tiers of Recovery foods, but will only have access to up to tier 2 for attribute foods, tier 2 for gathering foods, and tier 3 crafting foods. 

The remaining recipes will have to be found throughout Aeternum by looting provision containers. The higher the tier recipe you are looking for, the higher tier zone you are going to have to venture into in order to find the recipe. Recipes do NOT drop from every provision crate. They can be tough to find so it may take quite a while to obtain the recipes you are searching for. Recipes that are found are tradeable so you can purchase them from the trading posts as well. 

A rough look at what zone contains which tier recipe is as follows:

Tier 3 Recipe - Level 16 - 38 
Tier 4 Recipe - Level 36 - 58
Tier 5 Recipe - Level 56+

How and Where to Find Cooking Ingredients

Cooking ingredients in New World can be obtained in multiple ways. You can skin animals for meat, go fishing, loot provision crates, harvest crops from farms, harvest herbs for spices, and of course buy ingredients from the trading post. 

All animal spawns can be found by using our interactive map and filtering by whichever animal you are looking for. You can also find all fishing hotspots, provision crates, crops, and herbs by using the map as well. 



Obtaining meat, fish and crops is pretty straight forward. Kill animals and skin them for meat, go fishing for fish, and harvest crops at the farms for crops like carrots, broccoli, squash, etc.  

However, spices and other ingredients can be a little harder to come by. Some ingredients are region specific and can only be found in provision crates in that specific region. See the chart below. (This chart can also be references in our Quick Reference Section)


Spices in New World are another ingredient that can be a bit tricky to track down. Spices are obtained by harvesting herbs in New World. Every herb location can also be found by using our interactive  map. However, different spices are region specific. See the chart below



Your chance at obtaining a spice when harvesting an herb is largely based on your harvesting luck and skill level. 

Also worth noting are the attribute bonuses you get from both dexterity and intelligence. If you are trying to fully min/max your harvesting for cooking ingredients these attribute bonuses are worth taking. If you’re wanting to skin animals and obtain as much meat as possible, the dexterity attribute has the following bonuses related to skinning:

+10% skinning speed
+20% haste for 3 seconds after skinning
-10% weight of skinned items
+10% skinning speed (now a total of 20% increase)
+10% yield when skinning

The Intelligence attribute has the following bonuses related to harvesting:

+10% harvest speed
5% chance for 1 azoth when harvesting
-10% weight of harvested items
+10% harvest speed (now a total of 20% increase)
+10% yield increase when harvesting

The tools you use will also play a big factor in how efficient you will be when obtaining your cooking ingredients. 

How to Level Cooking

The information contained here about leveling cooking is assuming that you will gather all your resources yourself. However, you do have the option of purchasing the resources from the trading post in order to speed up your cooking leveling in New World. 

In order to efficiently level cooking you’re going to want to stick with the recovery foods. The attribute and trade foods will provide more experience per food cooked for each tier, but the amount of time spent to obtain the raw materials outweighs that of recovery food by quite a bit. You will need component food for most of those recipes, and you need very specific ingredients. The recovery food allows you to use many different ingredients and obtain the same result. 

The introductory quest line will have you craft one portion of light ration which will get you to level 1 cooking. 

Because we are going to be using recovery foods to level, the leveling process will be split up into 4 different categories:

Level 1 - 50: Travel Rations / Energizing Travel Rations (24 XP per ration)
Level 50 - 100: Light Meal / Energizing Light Meal (90 XP per meal)
Level 100 - 150: Satisfying Meal / Energizing Satisfying Meal (300 XP per meal)
Level 150 - 200: Hearty Meal / Energizing Hearty Meal (775 XP per meal)



A couple things to keep in mind prior to starting your journey down leveling your cooking are the taxes in the settlement that you are going to be doing most of your cooking in, and the tier of the kitchen in your particular settlement. If you’re in a settlement with high crafting tax you may want to move to a different town before leveling in order to save some of your hard earned coin. Also, if your settlement doesn’t have the necessary tier kitchen for your crafting needs you’ll have to move to a different settlement prior to leveling. 

You can avoid the tax altogether if you can manage to level up your camp as you go. You can craft all the necessary recovery foods from your camp and will not need a kitchen. However, to get a tier V camp you must be at character level 55.

Having those in mind will save you some headache, especially if you’re going to be harvesting the ingredients near the settlement that you’re going to be leveling your cooking in. This will prevent you from having to transfer your ingredients to another town to cook, although at times during the later levels this may be unavoidable. 

Also bear in mind the following ingredients needed for each Tier of Meal you’re going to be cooking

Tier 2 Rations
  • Raw Food
  • Tier 2 Raw Food

Tier 3 Light Meal
  • Raw Food
  • Raw Food
  • Tier 3 Raw Food

Tier 4 Satisfying Meal
  • Raw Food
  • Raw Food
  • Raw Food
  • Tier 4 Raw Food

Tier 5 Hearty Meal
  • Raw Food
  • Raw Food
  • Raw Food
  • Seasoning
  • Tier 5 Raw Food

As you can see above, every tier of food is going to require the use of raw foods. So, while you’re in the open world don’t discount killing and skinning lower level animals, turkey’s, gathering nuts, gathering honey from the towns, etc because all of those ingredients will remain relevant throughout the process of leveling your cooking. 

Also gather broccoli as you go. If you come across a farm that has broccoli, gather as much as possible and save it for later leveling. You’ll need it for your tier IV food. 

Bear in mind that your tier 5 Hearty Meals are going to require the use of Seasonings. So, as you're gathering your other materials make sure you’re harvesting herbs as mentioned above in the “Where and How to Find Cooking Ingredients” section. Any seasoning, including honey, will work for the tier V recovery food, so it does not matter which zone you are in while you are collecting the herbs, so harvest them in every zone as you go. 

Make sure you do NOT use your higher tier food that you loot along the way for the early levels. You will need tier 3, 4, and 5 ingredients for those foods specifically. Make sure you save them for that purpose and do not use them for the Raw foods options. Always be aware of what food you’re using for your tier 1 raw foods. 

Fishing is a great way to gather the ingredients needed up to tier IV, but bear in mind that once you hit the point of needing to craft tier V recovery food for the additional cooking experience you would still have to harvest seasonings to cook the tier V meals. Fishing is also pretty time consuming. So, the time to gather the required materials is much longer than other methods. 

You could work your way up to max by crafting tier IV meals, but you would use significantly more ingredients due to the XP gain from tier IV meals being significantly lower than that of a tier V meal.

The method of leveling below is going to utilize skinning, harvesting, and looting provision crates when available to obtain the ingredients needed to get to max cooking skill. Feel free to mix and match this method with fishing or any other way you see fit to gather your ingredients.

Level 1 - 50

You’re going to start your leveling process at level 1 by cooking either Travel Rations or Energizing Travel Rations (or a combination of both). These will yield you 24 cooking experience per item crafted. To get to level 50 cooking you will need a total of 3,450 cooking experience. 

3,450 / 24 = 143.75

Therefore, you will need to craft a total of 144 rations to get to level 50.  

Travel rations use 2 different ingredient types, Raw food and Tier 2 Raw Food. Make sure you select the dropdown menu while at the crafting station and deselect the “owned items” radio button to see all the available options. You can also check our database to see that information as well.



You can mix and match combinations of ingredients, but you can not use the same ingredient twice. You will need to gather a total of 144 of one ingredient and a total of 144 of another ingredient. 

In order to obtain the necessary ingredients you’ll want to be in Either Monarch’s Bluff or Everfall. Both of these zones have an abundance or raw food that is easy to harvest to gain your first 50 levels of cooking. 

Utilize our interactive map and filter by nuts, cranberries, carrots, squash, turkey nests, provision crates and herbs. These resources are in abundance in both zones and can be quickly gathered (make sure you invest in a good sickle and skinning knife as you progress).


As you gather the ingredients kill any game you see along the way and skin them for the meat. Also make sure you are harvesting all the herbs you see. The spices you get will come in handy once you begin cooking tier V food. Also make sure you are looping around to the provision crates as you gather the ingredients. Both crates in Everfall and Monarch’s bluff drop tier V raw foods that you will be utilizing later on. By gathering them early this will save you quite a bit of time later on.

Gather any fungus you see. They have a chance of dropping mushrooms which are a raw food.  Also every time you walk into town make sure you are gathering the honey from the beehives. 

Also remember to gather broccoli as you go. If you come across a farm that has broccoli, gather as much as possible and save it for later leveling. You’ll need it for your tier IV food. 

It is ok if you gather an abundance of lower tier resources as they can be used in every other tier of food during your leveling process. 

Once you have at a combination of at least 144 raw food (poultry, honey, nuts, mushrooms, milk, eggs, pork) and some combination of 144 tier 2 raw food (carrots, red meat, cranberries, squash) you can head back to town and craft 144 Travel Rations or Energizing Travel Rations and reach level 50 cooking. 

Level 50 - 100

You now need an additional 24,820 cooking experience to get to level 100. In order to get that experience you’re now going to start cooking light meals or energizing light meals. These are going to yield 90 cooking experience per meal. 

Therefore you will need to cook:

24,820 / 90 = 275.77 or 276 meals to reach level 100 cooking

In order to do this you are now going to have to gather the following

276 Raw Foods (or combination of)
276 Raw Foods (or combination of)
276 Tier 3 Raw Food (or combination of)

Everfall again is a good choice for gathering the necessary materials.

Use our interactive map and filter by elk, provision crates, herbs, berry (not cranberry, just “berry”), blueberry, cabbage, melons, and potatoes. 

Make your way to the southern portion of the zone and you’ll find an abundance of blueberries and some elk. You make a loop running northwest to the cabbage and potatoes and back around to the berries and elk until you have the required materials. 



If there’s too much competition for resources in that area you can venture south to Monarch’s Bluff or Windsward for the ingredients as well. 

Make sure you are still looting the provision crates and herbs, and killing and skinning game for later stages of leveling. It does not hurt to continue harvesting nuts, mushrooms and other lower tier food as you progress because they are needed in every tier of recovery food. 

Once you have the required ingredients make your way back to a settlement that has a tier III Kitchen and cook the required amount of Meals to reach level 100. 

Make sure you are not using your tier 3 in the bottom 2 drop downs that are for “Raw Food.” Make sure you are using your tier 1 food for those ingredient slots.



Level 100 - 150

You now need an additional 118,500 cooking experience to get to level 150. In order to get that experience you’re now going to start cooking satisfying meals or energizing satisfying meals. These are going to yield 300 cooking experience per meal. 

Therefore you will need to cook:

118,500 / 300 = 395 meals to reach level 100 cooking

In order to do this you are now going to have to gather the following

395 Raw Foods (or combination of)
395 Raw Foods (or combination of)
395 Raw Foods (or combination of)
395 Tier 4 Raw Food (or combination of)

By this point you should have a decent stockpile of tier 1 foods that you can utilize for the 3 raw food options. If not, continue to harvest them as mentioned above. 

Getting the tier 4 raw foods begins to be a little more challenging. You may have to visit multiple zones to satisfy the total amount needed. The meat needed for your tier IV food is going to be much harder to come by due to its rarity, so your best bet is to harvest broccoli, cauliflower, oranges and lemons. 

You can find broccoli by filtering for it on our interactive map and going to the spawns located in the specified zones. If the broccoli there has been unharvested you will be able to obtain a significant amount from each farm. If you’re having trouble obtaining the broccoli you’ll need to resort to the other ingredients. 

You will be able to find them by looting provisions crates (which you can find on the interactive map) and you can utilize our provisioning crate chart to find the zones in which each ingredient will be lootable from a provisioning crate. Unfortunately going from zone to zone looting the crates can be time consuming, so if you can get the broccoli 

Once you have the required ingredients make your way back to a settlement that has a tier IV Kitchen and cook the required amount of Meals to reach level 150. 

Level 150 - 200

You now need an additional 393,750 cooking experience to get to level 200. In order to get that experience you’re now going to start cooking hearty meals or energizing hearty meals. These are going to yield 775 cooking experience per meal. 

Therefore you will need to cook:

393,750 / 775 = 508 meals to reach level 200 cooking

In order to do this you are now going to have to gather the following

508 Raw Foods (or combination of)
508 Raw Foods (or combination of)
508 Raw Foods (or combination of)
508 Seasonings (or combination of)
508 Tier V Raw Foods (or combination of)

Much like the tier IV foods, the meat is going to be harder to come by than the other options. Also, by this point you should have harvested enough herbs (as mentioned prior) to have the required Seasonings. If not, you’ll have to begin harvesting herbs to obtain the ingredients needed. 

You should have a decent stock pile of tier 1 raw foods as well, so your challenge is going to be getting the tier 5 raw foods. 

There aren’t any harvestable plants that you can farm to get the ingredients. You will have to utilize rare meat (if you have any) and if not, then loot from provisioning crates. You will need to obtain a total of 508 of the following:

Rice
Apple
String Bean
Tomato
Coconut

Once you have the necessary ingredients make your way to a tier V camp or kitchen and craft the necessary amount of hearty meals or energizing hearty meals to get your cooking to level 200.

Items to Enhance Your Cooking

There are certain items in New World that will help you gain bonuses while cooking. Cooking bonuses and luck will give you a % chance to gain additional items while cooking. So, when you’re trying to cook some high tier or very rare food it’s a great idea to utilize these bonuses so that you get more items derived from the same number of ingredients. 

There is a Chef set of armor that will increase your cooking expertise perk on the armor. Wearing the full set will increase your bonus significantly. 

The set can be looted from elite ancient chests and you can see more information about it in our database.

You will also want to utilize cooking trophies in your house when cooking important meals. These trophies (depending on the tier) can greatly enhance your cooking luck as well. When pairing cooking trophies with the chef set of armor
