Introduction & General information for the Fire Staff in New World
The Fire staff is a mana-based weapon in New World that scales with intellect. The Fire staff has great single target and AOE damage making it a solid DPS weapon. In this guide, we will discuss the Fire Staffs Mastery Tree, recommended skills, and techniques to optimize the use of this weapon. The strength of the fire staff is it's ability to deal area of effect damage in may different forms, decent range, ability to utilize heavy attacks by using zero mana when taking certain passives, and short cooldowns. However it does lack crowd control, self healing, and it requires the use of skill shots.
The fire staff deals fire damage with light attacks dealing 100% fire damage and heavy attacks dealing 140% fire damage.
The Fire Staff in New World uses mana when using both light and heavy attacks, and abilities. Light attacks cost 2 mana and Heavy attacks cost 5 mana. Mana does not regenerate while you are attacking, but there are ways to manage your mana, and there are mana potions that can be consumed to recover mana quickly.
Fire Staff Mastery Trees
The two skill trees for the Fire Staff are Fire Mage and Pyromancer.
The Fire Mage tree is centered around increasing Critical Strike/Damage and improving Mana Management. A strong ability in this tree is Fire Ball. Fireball is a ranged ability that leaves an Area of Effect, "burning field", that does damage over time and can be upgraded to last for 9 seconds.
Meteor Shower is a channeled AOE DOT ability with a small amount of built-in sustain, that can allow you to rain down damage on your enemies. The downside is that you are left in a vulnerable position channeling the spell and, once the channeling is started, you can't move the AOE.
Pillar of Fire is an ability that has a small AOE with a delayed cast time, making it hard to land in most situations. The upgrades to Pillar of Fire sound good on paper but are too situational to help Pillar of Fire measure up to the other abilities of the fire staff.
The Fire Mage tree is also home to some of the best Critical strike modifications in New World.
All Fire staff come standard with a 4% Chance to Crit and a 1.2x Crit Damage Modifier. The Prophet of the Fire God node Increased your critical damage by 15%, increasing your total critical damage modifier to 1.35x. To take advantage of this, the Fire Mage Tree also offers Spell Slinger - a passive ability that increases your abilities chance to crit by 10%.
The key passive in this tree is the Rune Of Helios. After casting a fire staff ability, Rune of Helios applies a 2m rune to the ground that increased your spell damage by 25% while standing in the Rune. The rune lasts for 7 seconds and has a cool down of 30s, creating a 23 second down time. This combined with Clear Mind and Clear casting, creates the opportunity to open any fight with a massive amount of damage.
The Pyromancer skill tree and its passives are centered around Damage over time and Defense. All of the abilities on this side of the tree apply burn and have passives that support the damage over time effects. The three abilities in this tree are Incinerate, Flamethrower, and Burnout.
Incinerate is an AOE ability that affects the area around the player when cast, and knocks back any enemies inside the AOE. The base ability also adds a DOT. Incinerate's upgrades cause incinerate to double cast, increase the application of the DOT, and allow players to heal 20% of the damage done with the ability.. The Flame out passive combined with the Cauterize passive provides a good amount of survivability. One cast of Incinerate in an area filled with enemies can immediately heal you for a decent amount. To top it off, the base cooldown of Incinerate is only 12 seconds. This allows fire staff users to easily farm large groups of mobs with no healing or health potions.
Flamethrower creates a narrow cone AOE that deals 50% of weapon damage each second, catching enemies on fire for 3% weapon damage per second for 6 seconds. With the upgrades, Flamethrower can deal massive amounts of Damage over time. The downsides to Flamethrower are the range and the ramp-up time it takes to build burn stacks on the target.
Burn out is a mobility spell that allows players to dash forward, dealing damage to any enemy you hit. Burnout allows you to dash through your targets, dealing both weapon damage and burn damage. The final upgrade for the ability increases the range of burnout significantly.
The Pyromancer tree has a few passives that have great synergy providing very powerful effects. Watch it Burn, allows you to apply a DOT that lasts up to 6 seconds. You can also stack these DOTs with consecutive light attacks. This includes burns from all abilities including Incinerate and Flamethrower. Let it burn gives you a fortify buff for 2 seconds every time a burn deals damage. Watch it Burn, in tandem with Let it Burn provides a powerful defensive buff to the fire staff user as well as provides a small amount of passive damage to the target.
The Key Passive in the Pyromancer is Reheat. Reheat will increase the Fire Staff users Mana Regen to 400% if the user does not activate an ability in 4 seconds.
Fire Staff Recommended Roles & Abilities
There is no competition for the top two spots for the Fire Staff active abilities. 1A is Fireball. Fireball is a skill that you can utilize immediately off cool down, dealing massive amounts of damage at any range. The Burning Field can be used for zone control or against melee characters and provides a significant increase in DPS. Your next active skill should be Incinerate. Incinerate is both a top-tier offensive and defensive ability, and is in competition for the strongest active ability in New World. Fully upgraded, it can deal massive amounts of damage and, when hitting multiple targets, can heal you back to full health from near death.
Your third active ability choice will most likely be Meteor Shower or Flamethrower. Meteor shower provides significantly more range, has a larger AOE, and (with the Fiery Determination passive) is uninterruptable. Each meteor gives you 1% of your mana back on each successful hit. Flame thrower deals more damage over time but has limited range. Flame Thrower also has a much smaller cone making it slightly weaker against multiple targets.

The Fire staff Mastery Tree has two nodes that will allow you to use your heavy attacks to manage your mana. Spell Focus is a passive that restores 5% of your max mana with a heavy attack hit. This combination allows you to weave heavy attacks in to your rotation to maintain your mana pool and sustain damage.
Managing "Let it Burn"
The 30% fortify buff from Let it Burn, especially combined with heavy armor, is a massive boost to defense for the fire staff user. The easiest way to maintain this is to also select the Watch it Burn passive, which activates a burn that lasts 6 seconds with each light attack. Using a light attack every 6-7 seconds and in between Incinerate casts will help you maximize the uptime of this Top Tier passive.
