The Elementalist New World Ice Gauntlet Build combines the Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet to provide Top Tier AOE damage and good burst damage when played correctly. In this build guide, we will go through everything you need to know to pilot the Elementalist PVP build successfully.
Fireball is the key ability for Firestaff. You will use Fireball off cooldown to apply pressure to targets at range and reduce the cooldowns of the rest of your abilities. Fireball coupled with Pillar of Fire is should create enough burst to finish off most targets. Though, The key is knowing when the use these abilities and being able to set this window up. We will talk more about this in the “How to” section of the guide.
Burnout is a great utility spell than can help you kite melee builds and dash out of danger. Also, Burnout can be used offensively, but it’s recommended to save burnout for defensive instances in most situations.
Ice Shower is the key ability of the Ice Gauntlet and one of the best CC abilities in New World. Learning how to land Ice Shower on targets is key to setting up kills for you and your group. Ice Storm provides good AOE damage that can be used as zone control or pressure targets.
Entombed is the final active ability in the Ice Gauntlet Mastery tree. It is a Utility spell that can help you survive the pressure and minimize damage taken if used correctly.
The attribute split for the Elementalist build is 300 INT, 200 CON
This split allows for some extra HP and survivability while maintaining a high amount of damage. If you feel comfortable using your dodge, Ice Gauntlet abilities, and Burnout for survivability, you can change the split to 350 INT and 150 CON. It is not recommended to go lower than 150 Consitution in PVP, as you will lose the bonus Crit resistance from the 150 CON perk.
In this Section of the Elementalist New World Ice Gauntlet Build, we will break down what equipment you will use. This includes armor and weapon perks and equip weight
For this build, we will be in the light equip-weight category. In this equip weight category, you’ll gain access to elite mobility and 20% more damage. For example, the best way to obtain this equip load is with the following armor setups:
1.) MED CHEST, LIGHT HEAD, PANTS, GLOVES, BOOTS
2.) LIGHT CHEST, MEDIUM PANTS, (2 LIGHT, 1 MED) HEAD, GLOVES, and BOOTS
All of the Armor you will want for this build will be custom-made through crafting or bought from the Auction house. Below is the ideal perk spread you will want across all of your armor pieces. They are listed in order of importance from top to bottom. Start with armor with 2 perks on it and work your way up to three!
Mages in New World Want to kite most of their opponents and methodically damage their opponents at range. Doing this successfully requires your defensive cooldowns and stamina management. Therefore, you will need to prioritize your cooldown reduction perks such as Refreshing or Refreshing Evasion on your armor. Refreshing is the recommended perk in this build for the following reasons.
Refreshing reduces all of your cooldowns INCLUDING your back bar. This is important because you will most likely swap to Ice Gauntlet for cooldown use and back to your fire staff for primary damage. The problem with Refreshing Evasion is that if this is the case, you will not be receiving your cool-down reduction on the weapon on which you need it (the Ice Gauntlet). Similarly, this comes with the active behavior of dodging at least 4 times between cooldowns to make Refreshing Evasion worth using over Refreshing.
Shirking Energy is only available on pants so you will want to reserve a slot on them. Unending Thaw helps make Ice Storm a more reliable defense tool, applying a long slow to your target allowing you reliably use it for zone control, AOE damage, and CC.
Resilient is a top-tier defensive perk and when combined with 150 CON can eliminate the spike of damage from most critical attacks. You will most likely be kiting (more on this in the how-to section) your enemies with this build to avoid damage but Resilient will not only improve your likelihood of surviving if you get caught by a melee player. Likewise, it will help improve the match-up against Bow and Musket Builds.
Freedom is the final perk you will be hunting for. This again is to help improve your kiting abilities, breaking free from CC before getting clapped by damage. A good Entomb with enough freedom, and you should be able to get out of most CC alive.
Shirking Fortification shines in close encounters, the ones you want to avoid, but would be an honorable mention if other perks are not available.
Fire Staff – Empowering Fireball, Enchanted, Refreshing Move
Empowering Fireball has found its way onto fire staff since the recent changes to perks. Since you will be using most of your damage cooldowns as soon as they are up, Enchanted and Refreshing Move helps boost your damage output while reducing your Fire Staff cooldowns. In between Fireball and Pillar of Fire cooldowns, you’ll be placing burn stacks on other players with light attacks, and managing your mana with heavy attacks.
Until you are able to obtain one, Firevine Battlestaff from Garden of Genesis is a very good replacement
Ice Gauntlet – Keen, Enchanted, Refreshing Move
Keen and Enchanted help increase damage from light and heavy attacks as well as Ice Storm. Refreshing Move helps with reducing the long cooldowns of the Ice Gauntlet while trying to proc Heavy Freeze.
All of your jewelry will need to be custom-crafted. The perks for each piece are in order of importance from right to left so you can prioritize obtaining them
Amulet – Health, Refreshing, Shirking Empowerment
Ring – Hearty, Refreshing, Fire Damage or Keen Awareness
Earring – Refreshing Toast, Refreshing, Nimble or Healthy Toast
Gems in your armor and Jewelry should be used to mitigate the meta. If the meta is balanced just make sure you have gems that balance out your armor. Generally, if your armor is well balanced, Oxyx in your armor is the best choice since physical damage is the most prevalent damage type in New World.
For your weapons, Diamonds in both your life staff and Void Gauntlet will increase your healing output and provide some increase to damage while you are at full health.
Consumables on this build are pretty Strait forward. You will want one of each type of Infused potion on your bar (Health, Mana, and Regen) and a Stack of Hearty Meals. When your Health pots are on cooldown, you should use an Infused Regeneration Potion and Hearty Meal together while kiting away to increase survivability and reduce time out of the fight.
You will use food to balance out your gear to your desired Attribute Thresholds. The cheapest food available with the appropriate stats is most likely:
Honing stones are a must, you cant afford Powerful Honing Stones, make sure you use a lower-tiered option to squeeze out damage. Pop it before the activity as you only have a few spots on your Hotbar. Oakflesh Balm or GemStone Dust can be slotted to help provide increased survivability while under damage or in bad situations in place of Hearty Meals. Again, if needed, use a lowered tier option.
In this section of the guide, we will break down the key strategies to using the Elementalist Build effectively. These include Dealing Damage and Kiting Enemies/Zone Control.
The most effective way to put out large amounts of damage is using your cooldowns frequently and effectively along with applying pressure with your light and heavy attacks at range. The Elementalists excels at AOE damage but has decent burst when you use your cooldown effectively. Make sure you are laying down your fireballs and Ice Storms in meaningful spots such as clumps of healers or opponent mages in large group fights. This pushes them off their location and stops them from “free-casting”. You do NOT want to just lay your AOE damage on points to stack useless damage onto tanks to farm stats.
When applying damage to a single melee target, you should be using the light attack of your fire staff as they close the gap, kiting them away with your dodge and applying burn stacks. As they close in, your primary effort should be to land an Ice shower on your target. This will hard root them and set you up for your combo. The combo should look as followed:
Ice Shower > Heavy Attack >Ice Storm > Weapon Swap > Pillar of Fire > Fireball
This Rotation should be enough to down your target or put them in critical condition. Use Burn Out to create space if needed and then start kiting with your dodge, hitting your targets with light attacks from your fire staff until dead.
The Key to Kiting Melee opponents is in the anticipation of your opponent’s movement and using the abilities of your Ice Gauntlet to CC your enemy. For Instance, Burnout will help you create distance between you and your target but due to its cast time, you must use it before they get too close.
Ice shower can be used to root your enemy or create a barrier between you and your target to avoid damage and create space. You can use Ice Storm in the same manner, as an AOE to create a barrier between enemies or land it on them to slow them down. You can also use both of these barriers for Zone Control such as points in OPR or to flush enemies from behind the barrier in Arena.
The main mechanic of kiting is dodging. Using your dodge when available to create space between you and your opponent is necessary to keep them at distance. Remember, they are using their dodge to get to you, you must use yours to get away.
