Introduction
A Heartgem Rune is essentially an ultimate ability in New World. Once you have obtained the item you can equip it much like a weapon. Open your inventory and drag it to the appropriate slot. Once you have it equipped you can then utilize it like an ability. There are several different types of Heartgem Runes in the game, and each have unique abilities.
You can earn your first heartgem rune, the minor heartrun of cannon blast, by completing the quest “Secrets of the Heartgem.” This quest can be obtained from Anna Rozsa who is located at the Palace of Nekhbet, and will introduce you to the heartgem runes and how they work. This is a side quest that will become available only after you have progressed past the “Past Prologue” quest for the main story in the zone.
All Heartgem Runes and Their Use
There is only 1 rune type for the Minor and Major rune categories. However, there are a total of 18 Runes in their legendary form. There are 7 different types of runes and 3 categories for each rune. The categories simply change the perks associated with each Rune.
Fire Storm Heartgem Rune
Fire Storm Sends a 2m radius tornado of fire that travels up to 17m along unhampered terrain dealing 100% heartrune damage and inflicting burn to all targets hit. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

Grasping Vines Heartgem Rune
The Grasping Vines Rune vines around you that deal 100% rune damage and root enemies within a 4m radius for 3s. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

Stone Form Heartgem Rune
The Stone Form Rune allows you to harden yourself with layers of stone, cleansing all crowd control debuffs and granting immunity to both stagger and crowd control debuffs for 5s. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

Dark Ascent Heartgem Rune
The Dark Ascent Rune allows you to fly up into the air then plummet back down to the ground, staggering and dealing 100% rune damage within a 3m radius. Press the Heartgem Ability or Basic Attack input while hovering to trigger the fall immediately. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

Cannon Blast Heartgem Rune
The Cannon Blast Rune summons a cannon and fire a powerful, long-range shot that deals 100% Rune Damage. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

The Detonate Rune allows you to charge yourself with explosive energy for 3s and then detonate, dealing 100% rune damage within a 5m radius. The 3 different categories and their associated perks are below:

Bile Bomb Heartgem Rune
The Bile Bomb Rune allows you to spit out a glob of corrosive bile that creates a disease cloud on impact that lingers for 3 seconds. Enemies that enter the cloud are afflicted with a debuff that deals 100% heartrune damage per second and reduces healing by 30% for 8 seconds. Cloud sticks to enemies on a direct hit.

How to Obtain Them
To obtain the runes you must first obtain a minor version of the rune. The minor versions of the runes can be obtained from expeditions or can be crafted with the use of expedition materia.

Major Heartrunes
Once you have obtained the minor heartrune you can then upgrade it to the major version of the item. The minor version of the item is considered a crafting artifact. This means you must have it in your inventory in order to see the option to craft the major version. This is performed via the stonecutting profession and requires the following materials:

Once you have obtained the major version of the rune you can then craft the legendary versions of the runes. There are 3 different versions of the legendary runes. This means you will need to obtain 3x minor, 3x major of each type in order to craft them all.

How to Use Them
Once you have obtained a rune you will see it in your inventory under the inventory category, “Runes.” From there you simply need to equip your desired rune into the slot beneath your weapons. You can switch your rune out just as you would any other piece of equipment in New World.

Once you slot the rune you will see the icon at the bottom of your screen that will depict which rune you have slotted.
Using abilities, light attacks, and heavy attacks will begin to fill up your “ultimate” meter. Taking damage does not fill up the meter. Once the meter is full you can then activate the rune by pressing the default key of “G”. After activation the meter will deplete. There is no timer cooldown, but you must fill the meter back up in order to use the ultimate ability again.
